Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) has recently signed a licensing agreement with Hong Kong's Tengxun Entertainment, along with Shanghai Tianhong Real Estate Investment Co. Ltd. Plans are in the works to build MGM Studio World in the Changfend Ecological Business District in Shanghai. It is scheduled to open in the summer of 2010 to coincide with the World's Fair Expo.
MGM Studio World will be an indoor venue with dining, retail stores, and entertainment. The center will be built around the MGM brand, including a multimedia show with water features, special effects, and MGM films. There will also be branded merchandise and promotions of MGM's movies and television shows. MGM's franchises include James Bond, Rocky, Pink Panther, Stargate, and the Thomas Crown Affair.
Tianhong will develop and construct the center, and Tengxun will be the project manager, with a total investment of 1.2 billion RMB. MGM will not invest any money and will serve as licensor and creative collaborator.
