Maglev Denied Shanghai-Hangzhou Run
By Tino La Shaw

Maglev Denied Shanghai-Hangzhou Run China Business News has reported that an unnamed Chinese government official has rejected claims by the German transport minister that Siemens AG and ThyssenKrupp AG have been approved to build a maglev rail line running between Shanghai and Hangzhou.

The Chinese official, identified only as an official in the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said the cities are still awaiting approval. This official also stated that the government plans to construct it’s own high-speed railway between the two cities. “There will be competition between the two projects if both are approved.” He said.

This news comes as a contradiction of statements made earlier by German Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee who reportedly said that the Chinese government had given the go-ahead for the maglev line between the two cities. So we are still in a wait-and-see mode to find out who indeed will build the high-speed commuters dream to beautiful Hangzhou. I, for one, am eager to ride the rail… whoever gets the contract.
