AboutShanghai Staff Directory
There have been more than 30-writers during the 35-month tenure of publication on AboutShanghai, so this is by no means a full directory of staff writers and contributors, but these are our most frequent and accomplished content creators.
Should you need to confirm employment or contribution (and verify, none have done anything less than stellar work for us,) please just ask us directly for a recommedation.
If you need to contact us immediately, please email us at and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

| Ted Masterson - Ted Masterson – Associate Editor – Mr. Masterson was the editor of a local newspaper during his time at UCLA in the 1990s, and has since worked his way into the hearts of west-coast Americans visiting Shanghai. He works for a "major US auto manufacturer" in Shanghai, and is responsible for writing a number of articles, overseeing everything from the technology division, and finding everything new and interesting for our publication to cover. |
Jerry Hu - A native of Beijing, Mr. Hu came to Shanghai in 2002 as a student and couldn't find a reason to go back home. Much of his family lives in Shanghai, and between his work as an interpreter for major corporations and his writing for AboutShanghai, he's always got something to keep him busy. Look to Mr. Hu for an insider's perspective on the city and an uncommon insight to what the city means to visitors, expats and long-timers as well. |
Mark Einhorn - With a focus on entertainment, night life and tourism, Mr. Einhorn has worked as a freelance writer for us since 2006. With expat family living in Shanghai, coming here the first time was an easy decision, but staying took him what he calls, "An awful, awful lot of thought." Well, if you've ever been to Shanghai, even once, even if just briefly, you know the debate he faced. |
Lisa Thompson - Originally a China backpacker, Lisa came to us almost entirely on accident. She'd written some blog entries that her friends really enjoyed, so she sharpened up her trade, submitted a portfolio of work, and the editors found it as irresistible as she'd found Shanghai. Today Lisa publishes more than three articles to each issue, and wanders as far and wide as she's able in between. |
Will Flaus - Mr. Flaus came to Shanghai on a work visa as a performance DJ. If you know his name, it's likely you saw him at the Hard Rock in Shanghai or Beijing, or any number of other venues in Shanghai (including Tom-Tommy's, The Pub or the now closed Das Disco.) Will Flaus writes mostly about travel and entertainment, but also reviews a number of restaurants, night clubs, and tourist attractions in and around Shanghai. |
Manuel Del Fuego - Mr. Fuego, an infrequent contributor, has written some of our widest-read articles throughout the history of our site, some having been read more than 2-Million times. Mr. Fuego holds his personal, private identity in the highest regard, but has always gone to tremendous lengths to uncover stories of uncommon depth, even to the degree of being the very first to break stories, such as the South Pacific submarine crash, Barton Protective Services abuse of employment laws and the rampant fraud committed by Westlake Associates. As of printing this biography, he has been nominated for a local Peabody Award for his uncommon ability to locate, identify and break stories. |
Brendan Alexander - A syndicated, freelance writer, Brendan Alexander is more than just the youngest, syndicated journalist on the staff of AboutShanghai, he's indeed one of the two youngest journalists ever to write for the benefit of the print-reading, media-consuming world. Although his contributions to AboutsShanghai.com are limited, we value his contributions uncommonly, and not just because we've paid uncommonly for them, though that is also true. |
Tino La Shaw - The latest addition to our staff, Mr. Tino La Shaw has been assigned to technology and business reviews, and has both met and exceeded our expectations. Mr. La Shaw comes from us as a freelance writer from the "bigger" Shanghai monthly paper, and does so with highest repute, best regard and most thoroughly professional of reputation. We've checked almost a dozen of his referral sources, and despite what you may have heard about him online, we are confident beyond any shadow of a doubt that he is fully professional and proficient in his trade. |
Brian White - Brian was a founding member of the site, and still writes for us periodically. He's since been peeled off to launch our new sister site based on news and information about Puerto Rico. He'll be traveling extensively with a writing partner throughout the summer, and we look forward to his return in September. |
